Rowan University Starts New Division of Diversity and Inclusion
To better integrate diversity and inclusion into its campus culture, Rowan University is setting up the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The division will aim to create an educational environment which is equitable for all by utilizing data to inform and innovate, along with establishing culturally responsive programming.
“While the Division’s work will impact every unit across the University, it initially will include Achieving Success through Collaboration, Engagement and Determination (ASCEND), which comprises the EOF and RISE programs; the Faculty Center; Social Justice, Inclusion and Conflict Resolution (SJICR) and the Title IX office,” Rowan president Ali Houshmand said.
Dr. Monika Williams Shealey, dean of the College of Education, will lead the new division as its senior vice president, while Dr. Penny McPherson will assume the role of its inaugural vice president.
In the coming months the university will also form a council on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consisting of additional students, faculty and staff.
